Construction site on hold

Far from urban and populated areas, beside the existing national road from Amfilochia to Vonitsa, is located the construction site of Drymos, Aitoloakarnania, for the 50km highway construction project "Aktio-Amvrakia", which began back in 2010, and continued with various difficulties.

The last two years the project has been on pause, and a year ago almost all of the employees were fired. I am one of the two employees that remained as support for whatever development comes up in the project. The offices are empty of people, while due to budget difficulties, any maintenance in the construction site is now extremely hard to be done. This lonely and somewhat abandoned environment of the construction site, and the non-active conditions of the project, cause feelings of agony and disuse also, just like the mechanical equipment now rusting unused in the fenced open space.

The project's future depends on choices and acts of people in faraway offices in the capital. Critical points to its development have been reached many times over, and still it is unclear whether it will open again or close.
